“The Social Ladder” (Shenzhen / 2007)
A poem by Kwoa.
Elevated, by ambitions,
Kwoa 2007
Tiny glass lifts, up in motions,
Splitting fortunes; high-rise gutted.
Hunger amid dulled emotions,
One of billions, a life wasted,
By ambitions elevated.

Another piece on the business world after last week’s poem from oblivion. The form of this poem is a Sparrowlet (you can see detail of the form from Katherine Sparrow’s own website). The form was inspired by Dave from the Poet’s Place Cafe forum at Writing.com.
As for the photo, Kwoa stands in front of the the Shun Hing Square, which was Asia’s tallest skyscraper (source website at China Highlight). Shenzhen is still on the race for height, with the new Shimao Shenzhen International Center to become world’s third tallest building by 2024 (info from Dezeen website)…
